Silhouette Cards

Good morning all

Well I'm thankful to say the wind seems to have eased a bit this morning - it was quite frightening last night.  I thought my house was about to blow away!  I have just photographed some cards I managed to make yesterday so will post two of them now.

I headed off to my craftroom yesterday afternoon with the intention of trying the print and cut function on my Silhouette Cameo as I am still learning what it can do.  But as often happens with me, I got sidetracked and instead decided to see how well it cuts Coredinations card.  I chose two different colours to test it on, with the intention of making one card, but have to confess that I couldn't work out how to cut bits of the file whilst leaving others uncut so ended up with two cards, one being the reverse of the other, so to speak!

Card One:

The whole card, including the card base, was made from Coredintions card from Crafters Companion, which cut beautifully at the first attempt.  To cut the two mats I used gsd files from Coco Pop Art.  The oval mat was cut at the size on the file and I resized the rectangular one to fit an A5 card front.

Second Card:

I couln't decide on a sentiment for these cards so decided to leave it until I have some inspiration - if anyone has any suggestions for a generic sentiment that would fit then I would be pleased to hear them.

Sticking to my resolution to design the inserts at the same time I make the cards I did just that, using Craft Artist.  I will personalise the insert, print it and stick it in once I know who the recipient is going to be.  I decided to use the same insert for both cards, and here it is:

And just as a matter of interest, I did actually get around to trying the print and cut facility after I had made these two cards, but I will post the results separately, possibly tomorrow.

Thank you for calling in.

  4. These cards are stunning Catherine. The only machine I have is a big shot and I love what it can do but it is basic really. I am very impressed with your Silhouette Cameo, especially as it's your first play with it! Well done ... I will eventually buy another machine but I am totally confused as to what I should go for there are so many to choose from out there!
    Happy crafting, Pauline x

  7. Thank you ladies. Yes, I am having fun but still need to stay simple because of my wrist. Pauline I am very impressed with the Cameo so far. I still have my die cutting and embossing machine because the Cameo doesn't emboss but one of the advantages of the Cameo is that I can resize the files in the software so I get the precise size I want.

  12. It's lovely to see you back crafting, Catherine, and you're certainly back with a abang as these cards are simply beautiful. I am very fond of monochromatic schemes and the use of matts and layers really stands out.
I am pleased you are enjoying your Cameo. I have the Black Cat, Cougar, but sad to say I've not had enough time to get to grips with it since it arrived a few weeks before Christmas and chaos ensued! I will have to put time aside to play, but every time I say I am cleared up to do so, another load of sample work presents itself...lol! Oh, well, the joys of DT work...love it really!
    Take care of that wrist.

  13. Thank you for all your lovely comments ladies. Sheenagh I saw someone using a Cougar on tv but couldn't find out too much about it. Because I can't cut using scissors at the moment I decided to spend time playing with the Cameo especially the print and cut facility. Have had a rest today though because I think three cards yesterday was pushing it a bit! If you can find time to play and work it all out initially your machine will probably save a lot of time for you in the long run.

Its between a cameo or cricut I just can't decide, I've read so many different reveiwson them both. However from reading your comments I like the sound of being able to resize so by end of Jan I may have one, fingers crossed lol. Good to see your work again, take care.
